Newfound Hair Company is named after Newfoundland, Canada — where I have family roots, and the setting of The Shipping News, the novel I was named after. It’s always reminded me of a place that lives somewhere between Maine and Alaska, where I grew up — wild, weathered, and full of heart.

The space itself was built out by my fiancé, a merchant mariner who loves working with his hands. You’ll see his work throughout the salon. Between his profession and my name — Wavey — the nautical touches came naturally. We filled the space with antiques from around New England, styling stations made from reclaimed 1830s doors, and softened everything with privacy curtains and framed, upholstered acoustic panels so the space feels calm, grounding, and human.

Scalp health is essential to our brand and sits at the center of everything we do. We believe healthy hair begins at the scalp, and every service is approached with long-term hair and scalp integrity in mind. We’re a Certified Green Circle Salon and only carry products that meet the European Union’s highest cosmetic safety standards — the most rigorous in the world. Every formula we use is science-backed and chosen to support scalp balance, regrowth, and hair health over time.

Our stylists each bring their own voice, point of view, and creative strengths into the space, and those voices truly matter here. Newfound is deeply collaborative by design. We listen to one another, learn from one another, and believe our team is invaluable to the care we provide. While each stylist has their own approach to cutting, coloring, and styling, we’re united by a shared belief: healthy hair comes first. We work with all textures, have curl specialists on staff, and honor how you choose to wear your hair — curly, stretched, straightened, or anywhere in between.

As the owner of Newfound, I’m also a relatively new hairdresser — and I’m very open about that. I’m constantly growing, studying, and learning from the more senior stylists around me, and I see that shared learning as one of our greatest strengths. It keeps the space curious, humble, and evolving — and it’s a big part of what makes Newfound feel special and alive.

Throughout the space, you’ll find art that reflects how we see hairdressing — as expressive, thoughtful, and deeply creative. We’ve also added a small library and espresso bar to invite you to slow down and settle in. And if a book speaks to you while you’re here, it’s yours to take home.
